Evaluation of Rewarding and Developing Staff in HE initiative 2001-02 to 2003-04
Summary
In 2000, HEFCE launched a significant new initiative for Rewarding and Developing Staff in Higher Education (R&DS). By the end of 2006, HEFCE will have allocated £888 million to English higher education institutions in R&DS funds. This report by consultants KPMG evaluates the first phase of the initiative.
A letter from HEFCE Chief Executive Sir Howard Newby summarises the key findings. The report concludes that R&DS funds have enabled HEIs to accelerate the pace of change in transforming their management of human resources. The initiative has increased awareness of the contribution that good HR management can make to the overall success of the institution. And many institutions have increased their HR management capability, providing a foundation for future improvements.
