Evaluation of Foundation Degree Forward

Summary

Foundation Degree Forward (fdf) was established by the 2003 Higher Education White Paper, and is funded by HEFCE for an initial period up to 31 July 2006. We commissioned this evaluation to advise us and the DfES on fdf’s effectiveness to date and on what support is needed in the future to build the long-term success of foundation degrees. The evaluation found an almost unanimous view that there was a need for an organisation such as fdf to continue, at least until foundation degrees are fully embedded and as long as there is a need for activity on employer engagement and related matters. There is a strong prevailing view that employer engagement must be a major focus for fdf’s future work. Following the evaluation, HEFCE and DfES are considering the details of support for fdf beyond July 2006.
