Recruitment and retention of staff in higher education 2005

Summary

As part of its continuing research into the higher education labour market, the Universities and Colleges Employers Association (UCEA) commissioned the Institute of Employment Studies to explore current patterns in the recruitment and retention of staff in HE. The project also looked at how HE employers monitor and measure workforce changes, and deal with any shortages. It used both quantitative and qualitative methods to build on previous research, providing an up-to-date picture of the challenges facing universities and colleges in the UK.

The research was supported by HEFCE, Universities UK and the Standing Conference of Principals.
