Needs of employers and related organisations for information about quality and standards of higher education
Summary
This study by the University of Sussex School of Education engaged with around 140 employers of all sizes in the public, private and voluntary sectors. Its aim was to establish what their needs are for information about quality and standards and student achievement in higher education.
The researchers found that very few employers were aware of the Teaching Quality Information (TQI) site. Those that had seen the site felt that the information could be useful to them in planning recruitment of graduates, but not in decision-making about individual applicants. However, they felt the information was difficult to access and generally not appropriate to their needs.
The report makes a number of recommendations on how the site could be made more useful to employers. These have been taken into account by the Quality Assurance Framework Review Group (see HEFCE 2006/45). The group also drew on the following research reports:
- Teaching Quality Information web-site: qualitative user evaluation
- Impact of the Teaching Quality Information initiative on higher education institutions
- Review of aspects of Teaching Quality Information in England (QAA website)
