Independent review of the Higher Education Policy Institute

Summary

In 2006 HEFCE commissioned SQW Ltd to carry out an independent review of the Higher Education Policy Institute (HEPI) to evaluate the extent to which HEPI has achieved its mission and objectives, and provide evidence to enable HEFCE to assess HEPI's capability to do so in the future.

HEPI receives a core grant from HEFCE and its role is to raise issues, stimulate discussion, disseminate research findings and so inform and publicise debates in higher education policy.

The report concludes that HEPI has been remarkably successful in reaching its primary 'non-expert' audience and influencing higher education policy. It states that HEPI has exceeded expectations and been particularly effective at informing managers in higher education institutions, politicians, government officials and people working in other public bodies.
