Summary

HEFCE commissioned this report to evaluate the 'Third stream as Second Mission' pilot programme, funded through the Strategic Development Fund, which ran from 2006 to 2009. The report includes description of innovative approaches to engage with business and community partners with no experience of interacting with higher education, and looks at the internal developments and external impacts of these interactions. The report includes details of the structures and outputs of these projects, many of which are likely to be sustained by the institutions involved.
