Measuring university-business links in the United States
This report builds on a previous working paper on the higher education knowledge exchange system in the United States, commissioned by HEFCE from PACEC and the Centre for Business Research at the University of Cambridge. This report, from Tomas Coates-Ulrichsen, Professor Alan Hughes and Barry Moore at University of Cambridge, looks specifically at ways to measure the breadth of knowledge exchange activities, and the opportunities and challenges of making comparisons between the successes of US and UK knowledge exchange systems. Part 1 of the report sets out the data comparisons between the two countries that are presently possible, mainly focussed on research and development indicators. Part 2 describes in detail developments in the US to improve measurements, which may make comparisons possible between the two countries on a broader range of knowledge exchange activities.
