HEFCE has a role to investigate disclosures relating to financial irregularity and impropriety, waste and fraud in the institutions that we fund or where there is non-compliance with charity laws by exempt HEIs for which HEFCE is the principal regulator. We also have a role to investigate enquiries relating to HEFCE’s Prevent monitoring duty.

Sometimes referred to as ‘whistleblowing’, HEFCE considers such issues through our public interest disclosure (PID) process.

The 3-step system

The process for submitting a public interest disclosure is detailed in the downloadable guidance document and disclosure form.

If you have any queries please contact the PID team on or 0117 931 7381.
