The work of the team will underpin research carried out at the ‘Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Continuous Manufacturing and Crystallisation’ funded through the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).

The project aims to support the pharmaceutical industry move towards a ‘continuous production’ model in which materials are produced without interruption, rather than in stage-by-stage batches.

The academic team comprises seven leading universities supported by investment from EPSRC, the Technology Strategy Board, industry, other higher education institutions, charities and other sources.

The £11.4 million investment through the UKRPIF strengthens existing investments to establish a world-leading open-access facility in the new £89 million Technology Innovation Centre at Strathclyde University. This facility will provide state-of-the-art facilities across the project’s partner laboratories.

The funds will also help to develop bespoke, mobile and reconfigurable manufacturing platforms that address critical industry challenges.
