Data verification

The Data Assurance team carries out data verification on HESA and ILR data during the period of data cleansing before formal sign-off or submission of data to HESA or the Data Service.

HESA data verification

We aim to assist institutions in providing data for submission to HESA as fit for purpose by the HESA sign-off deadline of 1 November 2012.

Following feedback from institutions last year on the HESA 2010-11 data verification exercise, all queries for the 2011-12 exercise will be raised through the HESA Minerva system. This is a pilot exercise to see if it works better than last year when HEFCE raised queries via e-mail to the HESA contact.

The responses to queries raised by HESA in which we are interested will be highlighted by HESA in their Minerva queries. We will review the responses and follow these up if required. We will need to be satisfied with the response to the query before it is closed.

Some apparent anomalies in data HESA is not specifically interested in, but we are, due to their potential impact on funding. In such cases, we will raise queries through Minerva, specifically identifying the query as HEFCE queries.

Details of the queries that will be raised can be found at:

ILR data verification

We aim to assist institutions in providing data for submission to the Data Service that it is fit for purpose by the deadline of 15 November 2012.  Work begins as soon as the HEFCE web facility becomes available.

Following the pilot exercise last year for ILR 2010-11 we are repeating the exercise for ILR 2011-12 data. We will again e-mail the HEIFES contact with queries we need responses to, or a request for data resubmission.

It is essential that the same data is submitted to both the HEFCE web facility for review, and to the Data Service.

Details of the queries that will be raised can be found at:
