Universities and colleges in the East are playing an important role in stimulating business start-up by graduates and would-be entrepreneurs, as well as including support for graduates thinking about self-employment.

Cranfield University

The University's scheme under the Economic Challenge Investment Fund focuses on re-skilling unemployed graduates qualified in science, technology and engineering and mathematics. It helps them become employable in other business sectors, such as aerospace, air transport, automotive, energy and systems engineering.

The programme also helps enhance innovation by developing the skills of key employees.

The University has supported graduates to find placement opportunities with companies such as Advance Seating Designs Ltd Eco Sustainable Solutions Ltd. The former is a small company that specialises in bespoke office chairs for people with orthopaedic problems. The latter is a business in Dorset that recycles organic waste into garden and landscaping products.
