Yorkshire and Humber

Demand in Yorkshire and Humber from graduates and professionals for training, employability and job seeking support remains high. Universities in the region are continuing to deliver a range of measures to help graduates improve their employability, and to support them during the recession.

These include:

  • internships and work placements
  • employability skills
  • careers advice, guidance and coaching
  • job seeking support
  • increased scholarship funding and discounted tuition fees for postgraduate study
  • workshops, seminars and support for graduate entrepreneurs and enterprise activities.

Regional graduate internship scheme

Led by the University of Leeds, all higher education institutions (HEIs) in the region are pooling their resources to deliver the maximum amount of graduate internships possible - 410.

The scheme also brings together funds from the Economic Challenge Investment Fund to support internships and runs in partnership with Graduates Yorkshire, a regional graduate recruitment business established by university careers services.

The scheme offers £100 per week to participating employers as a wage offer, but the amount of funding is flexible depending on requirements. Each institution will work with employers to articulate requirements and define suitable projects.
