The university has been working closely with Merseyside Police to develop a programme for new recruits, through a Foundation Degree in Police Studies. The proposal gives new officers the opportunity to gain high-levels skills, leading to an academic qualification.
The degree represents a very important first stage in the development of the force, with future plans for opportunities aimed at serving officers, neighbourhood and community officers, and the civilian workforce.
This programme places an emphasis on the inter-relationship between academic and vocational subjects and builds on the success of the university’s Foundation Degree in Paramedic Studies. The university is also in discussion with Merseyside Fire Authority. This development will deliver another strand in meeting the growing need for enhanced local multi-agency collaboration.
