Skillset, through Bournemouth University

Creating relationships: growing business – industry and HE in partnership to support global leadership in the creative industries

At the request of its industry partners, Skillset, the Sector Skills Council for Creative Media, brought together major employers and leading media departments at 15 English higher education institutions (HEIs) to form a group of 'Media Academies'.

These academies aim to grow co-funded activity in three priority areas of workforce development:

• credit-bearing short courses in continuing professional development
• business development through enhanced leadership and management training
• foundation degrees in skills shortage areas, incorporating higher-level apprenticeships.

Skillset will work with the academies to ensure their portfolio is relevant to the industry. It will carry out intensive marketing with employers and practitioners, and encourage employers to help deliver the learning programmes.

This carefully developed partnership between HEIs and the Sector Skills Council will put in place the means to identify the needs of industry, and the flexibility to respond accordingly.
