This project is an example of the University of Cumbria's commitment to building sustainable and robust relationships with local, regional and national employers.
New full and part-time foundation degrees developed with the Cumbria Constabulary will aim to meet the workforce development needs of the police. These awards will develop their current staff, and train potential recruits to achieve a degree that qualifies them for graduate-level entry.
Similarly, a new part-time foundation degree in logistics and supply chain management addresses the training requirements of – among other employers – System Group Ltd, a company that specialises in training for the logistics industry. Not only does this support the specific aim of the Sector Skills Council for logistics (Skills for Logistics) to improve work-based learning and skills in the sector, but this kind of opportunity broadens progression for those wishing to extend their qualification to foundation-degree level.
Funding award : £187,930
