New equality and diversity scheme

Our equality and diversity scheme sets out our views of the challenges facing HEFCE and the higher education (HE) sector in the area of equality and diversity. It includes our aims and objectives and our approach to meeting them.

We published a new scheme in January 2012. This updates our previous scheme and responds to the requirements of the Equality Act 2010.

Action plan and consultation

In the new scheme we identify key equality and diversity challenges and describe how we will address them, specifying aims and objectives in each case. In the action plan for 2012-13 we have translated these into actions for colleagues across the organisation.

The outcomes of consultation document sets out the results of our consultation, which was undertaken between May and July 2011, and outlines the revisions that have been made to the scheme as a result.

Sector impact assessment

In developing our 2012-2014 Equality Scheme, we have undertaken a formal assessment of the impact it will have on the HE sector in terms of regulatory burden, equality and diversity, and sustainable development.
