Forthcoming sector impact assessments

This page lists aspects of our work, including organisations we fund, that we will assess for their impact on the higher education sector at some point in the next six months.

Finance and assurance

Charity regulation

We will publish a revised assessment to take account of new equality legislation and the first year of operation.

Leadership, governance and management

Estates plan

This document is being revised in the light of the Browne review and the forthcoming HE White Paper and will set out our plan for the future direction of HEFCE's estates engagement.

Leadership Foundation for Higher Education (LFHE): future funding models

We have supported LFHE as a means of enhancing the sector's capacity and capability to manage change since it was first created. It was always envisaged that LFHE would be financially self-sustaining. This assessment covers how LFHE might be funded after 2012 for work that is of sector-wide benefit.

Changes to collection of data; ceasing collection of equality and diversity monitoring data for non-academic atypical staff

We are planning to reduce burden on higher education institutions by ceasing to collect this data through HESA.

Learning and teaching

Higher Education Academy

The Higher Education Academy supports a number of HEFCE's strategic objectives. It influences national policy and supports institutional strategies for learning and teaching. It also supports the professional development of staff, and promotes good practice, which helps to provide the best possible learning experience for students.

Teaching Quality Information and the National Student Survey

Teaching Quality Information (TQI) incorporates the provision and publication of the National Student Survey (NSS), the Destination of Leavers of Higher Education (DLHE) survey, and statistics derived from HESA and ILR data. It also covers management of the Unistats web-site on which the NSS results are published.

Widening participation

National Scholarship Programme

The primary purpose of the National Scholarship Programme is to help students from disadvantaged backgrounds with the cost of their higher education study. HEFCE will manage this programme on behalf of BIS.

What works? Student retention and success programme

The primary purpose of the programme is to generate robust, evidence-based analysis and evaluation, and sector-wide dissemination of learning about the most effective strategies to ensure high continuation and completion rates within higher education.

Widening participation allocation funding

This will form part of the teaching funding consultation in late 2011 and early 2012. We will consult on a number of options on the best way to progress with future widening participation funding.
