Women in academic medicine

Lack of gender equity was highlighted by the proportion of males and females in professorial positions within medical schools. This project, which was completed in April 2008, set out to:

• test personal and institutional assumptions on career progression
• identify barriers to women's careers
• identify solutions (for example, good practice and training)
• provide a baseline database for future studies to evaluate improvements.
