Developing good practice in students’ union governance and relationships with parent institutions

Lead institution : University of Leeds for the National Union of Students

The overall purposes of this project, which began in 2008, were:

  • to improve governance of higher education students’ unions, and to establish codes of good practice in the governance of those unions, with a view to identifying, developing and embedding that good practice across the sector
  • to develop the relationships between students’ unions and their parent institutions, with an emphasis on assuring appropriate and robust accountability arrangements, and identifying the ways in which institutional support can be improved to obtain success and value for money.
