Developing and embedding a new higher education sector pension strategy (Phase 2)

Project reference : LGMF-208*

Lead institution : University of Westminster for Universities UK and HE Employers Pension Forum

The Higher Education Employers' Pensions Forum (EPF) and its Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) pensions sub-group will work to ensure the long-term sustainability of the pensions offered within the higher education (HE) sector.

In the period January 2010 to June 2011 they will provide higher education institutions with options in relation to type of pension offered, and will support reforms of all the pension schemes in the HE sector, where reforms are necessary and appropriate. This will include reform of the USS over the next two years.

They will also:

  • provide guidance to the sector on the legislative and scheme specific changes that impact on the HE sector
  • improve communication and understanding of pensions issues and challenges within the sector
  • disseminate information relating to the outcomes of the project, including development of consultation mechanisms.

This project builds on the outcomes of the project, 'Developing a new higher education sector pension strategy'.

Total funding : £333,850
