Modernising higher education reward systems: good practice in joint working at institutional level

Project reference : LGMF-019

Lead institution : University and Colleges Employers' Association

The proposal for this project originated in the Framework Agreement for Pay Modernisation for Higher Education Staff agreed in 2004. This agreement placed new responsibilities and duties on higher education leaders, managers and regional and local trade union representatives to reach agreement through partnership working, but experience in the process of pay bargaining and joint working was limited among these participants.

The project comprised two phases:

  • Phase 1 – research and pilot 10 workshops
  • Phase 2 – design and delivery of a training programme in joint working, via at least 50 pilot workshops.

While the immediate objectives of the project were to support delivery of the Framework Agreement, the development of partnership working arrangements provided long-term benefits for the sector.

Total funding : £73,000
