Delivering sustainable high performance through an engaged, resilient workforce

Project reference : LTC-020

Lead institution : University of Leeds

This project tackled the issue of how to engage with and support employees to deliver resilience, sustained discretionary effort and ultimately higher performance during challenging times and beyond. It aimed to provide the tools and evidence for a new model of working with employees. Specifically it was intended to:

  • provide HEIs with sector-specific evidence that investment in staff engagement and wellbeing can have a strong impact on key performance areas (such as outcomes from the Research Assessment Exercise, National Student Survey findings, sickness absence, 'presenteeism', and staff turnover).
  • help higher education institutions to build capacity and expertise in a way which is sustainable, and facilitates effective implementation – through practical toolkits, case studies and events.

The partners in the project were University of Birmingham, University of Bristol, University of Chester, Grimsby Institute of Further and Higher Education, University of Leeds (lead institution), Newcastle University, Queen Mary, University of London.

The project was funded under the Leading Transformational Change initiative and ran from October 2009 to September 2011.

Total funding : £350,000
