Leading, governing and managing enterprising universities

Project reference : LTC-029

Lead institution : University of Plymouth and Teesside University

This project was centred on the new market space that the enterprise agenda is creating for the HE sector, and aimed to explore and further develop the business models needed for its successful exploitation.

It examined the approaches which a number of higher education institutions have taken. It also looked at key challenges inherent in creating such business models, including:

  • developing leadership capacity
  • enabling staff to understand
  • shape and embrace change
  • influencing the unengaged
  • responding to and influencing demand
  • engaging for social and economic benefits.

The project was funded under the Leading Transformational Change initiative, and ran from December 2009 to September 2011.

Total funding : £218,807
