Learning from the USA's Malcolm Baldrige award in education process

Project reference : LGMF-004

Lead institution : De Montfort University

The project, which was completed in 2006, examined internationally recognised good practice from American higher education (HE) and its use in the English HE sector. It aimed to:

  • record the American Government’s Baldrige Award assessors’ site visit to Northwest Missouri State University (one of two finalists for the award)
  • analyse Northwest’s self-evaluation document, the assessors’ report, video-taped interviews and practice for benefits to the English sector
  • establish how Northwest’s approach to leadership, governance and management achieves recognition for performance excellence by state and federal agencies
  • present the knowledge gained to the English HE sector, mainly through eight regional presentations
  • provide documents and electronic files that will enable delegates to transfer the knowledge gained to their institutions.

Total funding : £66,330
