Project reference : LGMF-170
Lead institution : Liverpool John Moores University
Most HEIs survey staff in depth every three years producing large quantities of information that they do not always follow up consistently. The 'Taking the Pulse' technique produces smaller quantities of quality data by surveying segments of staff, using no more than ten questions, and then feeds back to that staff segment, addressing their issues. It can be used to drill down into key issues that are relevant to particular institutions.
During 2008-09 a consortium, led by Liverpool John Moores University, piloted the 'Taking the Pulse' technique as a means of securing quality feedback and improvement. The project partners were the Universities of Bradford, Gloucestershire, Winchester and Westminster University.
The pilot concluded that 'Taking the Pulse' was a practical method of gathering views in a speedy and timely fashion, which can help to clarify problems, identify priorities and improve the working environment.
Total funding : £72,400
