Project reference : LGMF-101
Lead institution : De Montfort University
In the interests of improving student retention, satisfaction and employability in English higher education, the on-campus student employment practices of Northwest Missouri State University were examined during 2007-8.
Northwest staff, students and other stakeholders are strongly committed to student employment as part of students’ learning experience, as well as helping students pay for their education, involving them more closely with the university and giving them skills for employment. The university recovers the cost of on-campus student employment through improved retention, reduced re-recruitment costs and the beneficial outcomes of high student satisfaction, which is transferring into higher alumni giving.
Students are employed in large numbers in talent development, the comment card system, residential assistance and as student ambassadors. There may be potential for development of these activities in the English HE system.
Total funding : £112,000
