Establishing and meeting the leadership and development needs of principal investigators

This project seeks to address one of the key issues arising from recent studies which indicate that PIs are 'the key staff group to work with if they are to elicit any real change in the career development of research staff'. HEFCE's Scoping Study (2005) recommended that a main focus be on management development for PIs. This project will take forward this recommendation by analysing existing and forthcoming research information (the CROS Research Leaders survey, November 2005) and the subsequent development of a programme of support principally aimed at new PIs, although experienced staff would also benefit.
