Higher Education Environmental Performance Improvement

Project reference : LGMF-020

Lead institution : University of Bradford

This is an established project which stimulates strategic change and operational improvements by working with estates and other departments with energy/environmental responsibilities.

The project has helped the higher education sector to improve building design, minimise energy and water consumption and waste generation, and ameliorate transport impacts through the Green Gown Awards, courses and events, building and activity benchmarking, case studies and guidance documents, and online materials such as Environmental Virtual Campus.

These activities have reduced institutional risks, and often created financial benefits through better water efficiency, and minimised consultancy fees and staff time demands. Energy and environmental issues will increase in importance in the future because of tighter regulation, rising prices, and growing stakeholder demands. The project aims to help the sector respond more efficiently and effectively to these challenges.

Total funding : £160,000
