Strategic management related guidance (including value for money)

There is a great deal of management-related guidance available generally. It is impractical to list all of this here. Consequently, we have restricted our view to guidance that is quite specific to the HE sector.

Issued by HEFCE:

• Strategic Planning in higher education (HEFCE 2000/24)
  This guidance provides advice on the strategic planning process for HEIs.

• Sustainable Development
  Our sustainable development resource guide provides a directory of resources and organisations.

• Related companies: guidance for higher education institutions (HEFCE 2005/48)
  This provides advice on the management and oversight of subsidiary and other related companies in higher education institutions.

• Risk Management
  A range of guidance on risk management, including a self-assessment tool.

• Estates
  High quality physical infrastructure is vital to the sector. Good practice is available on the sites of the UK Higher Education Space Management Group, Estates Management Statistics and the Association of University Directors of Estates.

• HEFCE's Leadership Governance and Management Fund
  This fund supports a range of projects throughout the HE sector, most of which have made available the results of their work.

• Circular letter 15/2003 - Severance payments for senior staff in higher education
  This letter updates the guidance on severance payments to senior HEI staff originally issued in 1997.
