Context maps for the common evidence base

This web page provides a set of context maps to support the common evidence base (CEB) for the new 'University Challenge' initiative to develop new higher education (HE) centres. These additional context maps are not part of the CEB and do not provide alternatives to the benefit statistics in the CEB. Instead their purpose is to aid understanding of the CEB geography by mapping some of the components that contribute to it.

There are nine context maps covering provision sites, local provision, population density and disadvantaged areas. These maps are provided as both a pdf file and as a png image file (which can be used in documents or presentations). The explanatory note below provides further details of what the maps show.

The CEB and context maps were extended to show Wales in May 2010. The data for England remains unchanged. The original England-only versions for the CEB and the context maps are also available.
