Summary

Progress South Central is a Lifelong Learning Network that focuses on the needs of the learner and the employer, encompasses a breadth of provision and mission within its partner institutions, represents the voices of further and higher education equally, and delivers clear benefits to the region that could not be achieved by individual institutions.

On completion of the period of funding, Progress South Central will have:

  • established a minimum of 15 cross-Network progression agreements, covering five priority sectors
  • provided a minimum of 3,690 new learners with pre-sessional programmes, across at least three priority sectors, which will have facilitated more than 1,470 learners accessing Level 4 provision and beyond
  • adapted existing provision, and created a range of new provision, to meet the needs of vocational learners in such a way as to have facilitated the progression into and within higher education for a minimum of 565 additional learners.

This work will have included the development of:

  • a sustained strategic alliance of partners including higher education, further education, Sector Skills Councils, professional bodies, Aimhigher, Foundation Degree Forward and a range of other regional stakeholders with a commitment to delivering progression for vocational learners
  • a minimum of nine pre-sessional programmes across three priority sectors;
  • five Foundation Degrees across a range of sectors, including at least one with a range of specialist pathways
  • three modular programmes of continuing professional development at a range of levels
  • a virtual 'Creative Academy' to co-ordinate, develop and promote programmes and progression routes within the creative industries
  • two toolkits to facilitate the development of innovative approaches to AP(E)L and good practice in work-based learning for the adaptation of existing curriculum
  • a range of staff development and practice-sharing opportunities to facilitate curriculum adaptation and development
  • a set of online career management materials for developing learners' understanding of progression opportunities, and other information, advice and guidance tools.
