Summary

The Coventry and Warwickshire Lifelong Learning Network is based on a commitment of key stakeholders in the sub-region to work collaboratively in order to advance higher-level learning opportunities and transparent routes of progression for vocational learners into and through higher education, based on the identification of need and demand.

The LLN's proposed activities will closely address the priority skill needs of the sub-region, the West Midlands and beyond, and build on a long tradition of collaboration between the sub-region's two universities and its five further education colleges.

Work will initially focus on the skill needs of the construction, cultural and creative, engineering and health, care and early years sectors.

The LLN will work with learners, employers, employer bodies, Sector Skills Councils and providers to undertake a range of key developments:

  • remove barriers to progression by developing new provision and/or re-fashioning existing provision
  • develop flexible and accessible learning provision with an emphasis on work-based and work-related learning, linked to occupational standards and professional body accreditation, wherever possible
  • locate provision within a Credit Accumulation and Transfer (CAT) system and progression framework
  • signpost progression opportunities for vocational learners with a comprehensive information, advice and guidance service.
