Summary

The South London Lifelong Learning Network (LLN) will focus on the needs of the vocational learner and will widen participation. It will increase learner progression, attainment and success and open up access to targeted vocational courses by providing information and advice, appropriate pathways, and support for learners' employers and institutions, backed by the necessary supporting infrastructure. The LLN will engage employers and meet their higher level skills requirements.

The LLN will complement the strengths of 10 HEIs and 13 FE colleges, together with 20 other organisations, to create progression routes in three initial priority sectors as identified in regional priorities - healthcare and biomedical science; construction and engineering; and sports and leisure. The LLN will target learners in the FE/HE boundary and within higher education who live work or learn in the area:

  • young and older adults progressing from Level 3 to Level 4 (the majority may be full-time students) (Vocational programmes)
  • work-based learners, both young people and adults in work, progressing either full or part time to Level 4 and above. The LLN will target Apprentices and Advanced Apprentices to create for them a more natural culture of progression to Level 4, including foundation degrees
  • adults in work engaging in continuous professional development at Level 4 and above.
