Mainstreaming and sustaining widening participation in institutions
We carry out a number of activities that are designed to make widening participation a continuing and core part of university and college activity.
Action on Access programme
Throughout 2008 Action on Access, with HEFCE's support, ran a programme to develop approaches to widening participation as part of the mainstream activity of institutions.
The programme targeted senior managers and focused on the strategic development of widening participation through events, institutional visits, dialogue, analysis and planning.
We will continue to work closely with Action on Access to support this agenda in the future, in light of our work on widening participation strategic assessments.
Other work
We are working to embed transferable practice across the sector through the National Primary Network and the meteor project.
The Higher Education Academy also conducted a recent programme designed to develop and embed inclusive policy and practice in HE. The programme involved ten institutions and provided a means to exchange ideas about policy, practice, development and implementation.
