Equality objectives, information and data

Our Equality and Diversity Statement and Objectives presents out our equality objectives.  We developed this document through liaison with the sector. It covers a two-year period from January 2016 to December 2017.

We report our equality progress annually to our Board  in our Annual Equality and Diversity Report.

Annually updated equality data on HEFCE staff, HE staff and HE students are provided below and detailed sector equality data are also available from the Higher Education Statistical Agency (HESA). The Equality Challenge Unit publishes regular sector staff and student statistical reports on equality in higher education

Equality and Diversity Statement and Objectives

HEFCE’s Equality and Diversity Statement and Objectives demonstrates our commitment to equality and diversity. It sets out our approach to equality and diversity within HEFCE itself, in our work with the higher education sector and in meeting the requirements of the Equality Act 2010.

Legal requirements

Under the Equality Act 2010, HEFCE must meet the general equality duty to eliminate discrimination, advance equal opportunity and promote good relations both as an employer and as a provider of public services. It must also show 'due regard' to the duty across all of its functions. Our scheme explains how we meet these requirements.

Impact assessment of scheme

An impact assessment of the HEFCE Equality and Diversity Statement and Objectives will be published in April 2016.

An updated equality and diversity action plan to accompany the HEFCE Equality and Diversity Statement and Objectives will be published in April 2016.

Equality and diversity action plan

The equality and diversity action plan contains our aims and objectives in equality and diversity.

Each objective leads to specific actions for HEFCE staff. We report on progress against the plan annually.

Annual report on equality and diversity

We submit an annual report on equality and diversity to the HEFCE Board. It contains our equality information about HE staff, HE students and HEFCE staff, and provides a report of progress made against our equality and diversity action plan.
