The University of the Arts London

Aims and objectives

'Diversity Matters: Let’s Talk About Race' shares the views of various students and staff at the university (including the senior management) about what diversity means to them and how it is reflected in the learning environment. Previewed during Diversity Matters Awareness Week 2016, this filmed offered a starting point for discussing race matters.

The project has also grown to become a student-led platform working between the university and external organisations to address the lack of black, asian and minority ethnic representation in the arts and media, and education and work environments.

Benefits to other institutions

The project has helped to:

  • develop a platform for both students and staff
  • raise awareness of BAME issues in HE
  • connect with non-BAME allies.
